Task 5.2 “Critical Thinking: The Soul of Communication”

How do you see communication and critical thinking impacting your future role as a leader in the workplace?

A good communication skill is very essential in the work arena. As we know, this directly links to the capability of the workers and leaders in a workplace setting to think critically and produce a good solution for problems they face daily in their work life. As a future engineer and in my opinion, effective communication and critical thinking in the workplace has a major impact on all its stakeholders.

Critical-thinking employees are self-aware, independent, capable and has a non-stop information gathering skills in deducing key facts and outcomes. As we look deeper, communication becomes more effective when you can think critically. When we are prepared with facts, arguments, opinions, and alternative solutions, communicating is much easier. Hence the ability to communicate in both directions has the greatest result. Critical thinking is a strategy that helps to frame important messages in a way that maximizes its effectiveness.

Moreover, as a leader, critical thinking allows us to listen with restraint and analyse the other party's reasoning. Critical thinking enables a leader to respond instead of reacting in a particular situation. In conclusion, critical thinking is highly valued by employers and it is possible to develop it further.
